I am interested in pursuing development of bistable reversibly immortalized human islets -- inducibly dedifferentiated during propagation and redifferentiated for metabolic competence -- as potential unlimited source of well characterized cryopreserved ells (insulin secretion responsive to glucose) for transplant.
I am curious about the most current status and recent progress of organizations and research associated with Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong -- Amcyte (VivoRx) Inc, Amcyte (VivoRx) Diabetes Inc, American Bioscience Inc, and Foundation for Transplant Research.
David Armstrong's 10/6/2003 article in Forbes mentioned that following a three year hiatus Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong vowed to get back into diabetes research -- but it is not entirely clear from any of the published accounts whether he will pursue this diabetes research via AmCyte or another organization.
