Typical of a scientific conference to be all cockahoop over the discovery that the four posited biochemic pathways by which complications develop are in fact just one, and then only to mention as an afterthought that the substances blocking that pathway could save diabetics from complications. They even seem more interested in things like benfotiamine as a way to test the hypothesis that there is only one advanced glycation pathway than in the fact that it could save millions of lives. There has been extensive discussion for more than a generation now about uniting clinical and experimental branches of medicine, of having researchers actually treat patients, but the persisting gap is evident here.
