The reason not to try it in humans is that it has not yet worked in the pig-to-dog model. All they claim to have showed is that some islet tissue survived. Let them do an experiment that transplants the 200,000 or so islets needed to cure a diabetic dog. If they produce a dog with no canine c-peptide and abundant porcine c-peptide and euglycemia, I will be impressed.
