Occasionally we worry about clever, diabolical plots by the big pharmaceutical companies to thwart research and influence governments. Then something like this comes along, and we are forced to admit that most of them lack the strategic intellect needed to pull off any kind of conspiracy. This was about the clumsiest play I have ever seen, clearly by people who have no ability to predict the obvious effects of their actions. The ice is so thin under their skates right now, that they'd be better just to stand still and quiet until things cool down.
