I'm afraid there is absolutely no truth in that statement. Many diseases are cured, even though we have no idea how to prevent them. Statements like this generally come from epidemiological researchers to justify the grants they get from ADA, but the truth is that we could cure diabetes 100 years before we ever figure out a way to prevent it. And the cure will come a lot sooner when we stop diverting scarce funds and human resources to studies such as these.
