My 18 year old daughter has had diabetes since she was 2 years old, we would like to see a cure as much as anyone..BUT-- in the meantime the ADA does a great job helping people to learn to cope with the day to day challanges of managing diabetes. As a Mom of a child who has attended diabetes camp since she was 7 years old and as a nurse who has worked at a camp in Oregon, I can't begin to tell you what it means kids to see other kids who really understand what it is like to live with diabetes, and what it means to parents to be able to allow their children a week of fun with the knowledge that their child is safe and well cared for. The skills the kids learn will help them to manage their diabetes better and hopefully prevent any complications so when that cure does come along they are healthy enough to benefit.
