This could predispose to type I, but there would probably be
other tissues targeted first, so it seems unlikely. On the other hand, if one wanted to increase the sensitivity of a particular T-cell clone (say one that responds to islets) to
the point of turning it off (negative selection), inhibiting
MGAT5, in theory, might be a tolerizing strategy - if one could target the T-cells. This didn't seem to work for the doses of antigen used in the study, though.
