Alan:

I wish all could understand but alas even people with diabetes do not fully understand. I stated in an earlier thread that I can "tell" when I am high (>200). Someone asked me recently how I can tell and what I feel, for the life of me there is a complete lack of vocabulary in the English language to describe it. If I awaken really high, I just plain feel like $*&^. If I am just slightly above 200 then I can tell that I am not quite right felling slightly ill, my signal to test myself.

When I am really low (=<40) I usually sweat but not all the time. I used to become numb in my lips but not all the time and not any more. Sometimes my ability to see a single image through vision is lost and I see double, but not all the time. Sometimes I loose muscular control that causes rough and jerky movements in my limbs, but not all the time. Sometimes I am completely symptomless, but rarely.

Here in Cincinnati there are Doctors that are also with diabetes but I do not go to them. My doctor is excellent though sometimes he is constrained by his thoroughness by the limits of modern medicine and insurance reimbursement. He does not know what it is like to have diabetes but I do not look to him for comfort, empathy or sympathy. I look to him for expert knowledge which he posses in abundance. Going there can sometimes be cold but when I am finished I have the knowledge that I have had the best available care in Cincinnati and for this I am deeply thankfull.

Steve
