There is certainly plenty to cry about when you witness, daily, your child in the grip of this monster, diabetes. I share your awe of the researchers minds, hearts and souls. Any opportunity I've had to be in their presence has been a spiritual experience for me (an athiest!) The word "hero" leaps to mind.
Yesterday I had the opportunity to listen to the terror of a patient struggling to take her first chemotherapy pill, a nasty drug callded hydroxyurea. She's dying of Chronic Myelogenic Leukemia and has no match for a bone marrow transplant, a terrifying procedure/cure. My hope is that anii-cd40/anti cd 154 Ligand will offer her and millions a more benign solution than the near-death experience of bone marrow tx, (IF she finds a donor._ How far-reaching are the applications of this immunosuppression?
