I am not one to pay much attention to the word "cure" for diabetes simply because anytime I have, there's always been the omnipresent caveat -- "but this is still years away."

Anyway, last night I heard Tom Brokaw present the lead story as a cure for diabetes. The follow up revealed that they have solved the rejection issue for transplanting islet cells in monkeys and that human trials are to begin this summer. Some of the research team actually used the word "cure."

I'm on the pump, and I've had this disease for over thirty years. This is the first time that I've ever felt this optimistic. Anyone else see the report?
