ADA has may objectives besides spending money on a cure. Diet, education, training of doctors(scholarships),some research, etc. Their site has a Conflict of Interest Policy for their members to cover their many roles. Asking for more money gives everyone at ADA a larger pie to work with. Picking one area may upset another. ADA's % spent on cure research funding should have gone up as NIH did not keep up with inflation, if their primary objective was a cure.
