I can empathize with you. My now 11 year old son was diagnosed right after he turned 4, and the shots were the worst part for him. He didn't mind the finger sticks nearly as much. We used a Medijector for quite a while, but had various problems with it. He's been back on the needle for about 3 years now, and does all his own shots. Insulin delivery without a needle would be a "great to have" for young kids, but I absolutely ache for islet cells for the kids. In general, I wish the kids could go before the adults, although we all know why this can't be.
