Dear Sir,
My doctor, who has since left the area for another position, had me take 300mg of Niacin after every meal. I could only tolerate 150mg per meal, because of moderate to severe joint pain. This was most profound in my feet, along with a burning sensation. The good news was that it lowered my colesterol from 305 to 215, and raised the good colesterol dramatically. I continue to take 150 mg. per meal, around 400-500mg. per day, but the joint pain persists, especially in my toes.
I have read articles on Niacin doses causing Diabetes. Diabetes does run in the family history, although I have had no problem in this area.
Should I continue the Niacin therapy, or am I doing myself more harm than good? I am a healthy 43 yr. old male.
