I would doubt it.
Making cells over produce alpha-1-antitrypsin by genetic manipulation prevents diabetes prone mice ( NOD) from developing diabetes.That we know.
Actually antitrypsin is a misnomer. It is an anti-elastase.
Alpha 2 macroglobulin is the main antitrypsin protein.
Its worth a try as it is a relatively harmless treatment and a human trial would settle it.
