Both my transplants happened at Vancouver General hospital. Most transplant recipients needed more than one transplant to get off insulin. Some never got off insulin. I had a heck of a time getting used to the tacrolimus and mychophenolate when I got the first transplant- vomitting, diarrhea and harsh stomach pains but went away after a couple of months. Was re-admitted to hospital in September after white blood count dropped too low. Was put on metformin to help the islets when transplant started to fail in 2008.
I hate the fact that it is very difficult to get information from/about other patients. All previous websites & emails no longer work. I am one of the success stories. There have been a few people needing 3 transplants in Vancouver.
