From some of the reading I've been doing, mostly articles from India (either study abstracts or news articles from Indian sources), the claim seems to be that Camel milk contains an insulin-like molecule that lowers blood sugar when ingested because the molecule in solution is not degraded by stomach acid and instead is free somehow to be absorbed via the intestine.
Sounds sort of wonky to me, to be honest, but it would be interesting to hear your thoughts Dr. Elliot. I'm happy to drink Camel milk, but if all it's doing is somehow providing an alternative source of an insulin-like agent, then I'm not sure how that's superior to injections.
The fact that it appears to work on established T1's (according to the aforementioned internet articles and study abstracts that *seem* legitimate to my untrained eyes) would indicate that it can't be an immunological effect (as I wouldn't think that an established T1 would have enough endogenous insulin to make much of a difference even if the immune attack were somehow blunted).
I'm gonna go find me a camel to milk. Going to be tough...they aren't native to Canada :(
I'll let you know how it goes.
Here are some links for interested readers...I'm not sure I believe them though:

This one's interesting, as I assume that Alloxan induced Diabetes isn't immmunological, and yet the effect in dogs was significant at 250ml or 500ml daily.
