Will receiving a human islet transplant treatment have any impact on a future LCT treatment? I would think not but would like to ask regardless.
I'm in a very frustrating predicament.
My MD wants me to consider a pancreatic/islet cell transplant and sooner rather than later (I have no complications and fairly low insulin needs but my diabetes is very difficult/impossible to predict and control and has been for some time now). He refuses to listen to my assertion that xeno transplants and encapsulation is indeed in human trials. He insists that the technology is at least 15 (!) years away. But at least he is open to the idea...
If I go ahead with the islet transplant to buy me some time until I can get the LCT treatment, will this have any effect on the success of the treatment? I know you cannot give timelines, but what would you do if you were me? I don't want to rush into anything, but I also am at the point that I am willing to take a risk.
Thank you Prof. Elliot.
