Innovative treatment begins clinical trials at MUHC posted by Dan
Could this possibly be combined with the recent research which identified the protein that causes autoimmunity. Once the autoimmunity is stopped, if regeneration does not occur on its own, then this Exsulin could be used to help it along.
Researchers have successfully induced tolerance for people allergic to peanuts by isolating the protein and giving just the protein that causes allergies to people slowly but steadily until they were no longer allergic.
Of course the actively autoimmune T-Cells could be killed off using TNF alpha which is what Dr. Faustman's research is all about. She is using BCG to increase levels of TNF alpha which kills off the rogue T-Cells. The isolated protein to be used to induce tolerance and we know from Dr. Faustman's resarch that beta cells do in fact regenerate on their own, it's been replicated more than 5 times in labs all over the world. If, however the replication does not occur, this Exsulin could be used once the autoimmunity is stopped.
