Question for Dr. Elliott and Scott King posted by Art
LCT trial approval was given under the factual usage of their own islets and encapsulation technology. You can therefore not just switch the encuplsulation media without getting new approval for this. Question is also what LCT would gain by using the sheets instead of their own encapsulation technology?
The 'only' extra would of course be that you hereby could test if the same piggy islets would regulate bg better or stay alive longer than when using LCT's own encapsulation method.
The commercial arrangement would not be a major obstacle if it would be best option for LCT, though think their own encapsulation technology is their core competence. It would diminish LCT's value tremendiously as other alternative islet sources could in this case also be found for Islet Sheets.
