Curious about the $1M cost for lifetime of T1D. That seems low. I assume it is only for a person who lives without complications and a full life expectancy? That seems very optimistic. Real costs could include organ transplants, early deaths, limb loss, sick days, etc....
One other cost savings is R&D funds. That is, once a cure is found, funding for other T1D treatment research could stop - saving millions if not billions.
