Maybe this would be hard to measure, but didn't Michael H have living glucose responsive porcine islets after 10 years? So maybe #5 could be added to the list mentioning c-peptide trickle and warding off ESRD.
The hard work my wife and I do day in and day out to keep our son as healthy as possible could be for nothing if he starts having kidney problems. I fear this the most of all complications. I see EPI as a way to ward off this outcome. I have no proof, but many studies talk about the protective nature of c-peptide for the kidneys. I don't see Eli Lilly and others adding c-peptide anytime soon.
I would pay for Level 1 results. I don't know how, but I hope this is available prior to his teen years....Maybe we will have our own "walks" to raise money.
eff JDRF.
