The problem is that pie-in-the-sky nonsense like JDRF's artificial pancreas is the number one impediment to a cure. It is not an "improved treatment" that might help things until the real cure gets here, as you suggest. Quite the opposite. It is the roadblock to a cure. Not only does it soak up funding, but it allows JDRF to marginalize far more advanced and practical initiatives that really threaten the diabetes gravy train.
