Re: INGAP bounced from failure to failure for 27 years posted by Elaine
Did I miss something in the promo video for INGAP (aka Exsulin)? The ability of the INGAP protein to stimulate the growth of insulin-producing cells was made very clear, but at no point was it mentioned that these cells produce insulin in direct proportion to blood glucose level, as do healthy islet cells.
Considering that INGAP grew out of research that attempted to create an animal model of pancreatic cancer, is it possible that the insulin-producing cells created are insulinoma cells? One form of pancreatic cancer is an insulinoma tumor in which the patient is killed by malignant cells that continuously secrete insulin without regard to blood glucose level. The patient dies of uncontrollable hypoglycemia.
Perhaps I missed the clear statement that the cells generated by INGAP are healthy glucose-sensitive, insulin-secreting cells, as opposed to insulin-spilling cancer cells.
I can't imagine that this is the case, but did anyone hear that distinction made in the promo video or elsewhere?
Al
