I switched from Lantus to Levemir last year. Previously I was on 2 injections per day of Lantus, one in the morning and one at bed-time if I remember correctly.

I am now using 1 dose per day of Levemir, and it's slightly lower than the combined dose I was on with Lantus.

Both Lantus and Levemir are supposed to last 24 hours, and both are supposed to have a fairly flat action, rather than a peak. In my experience I haven't noticed a peak, but the levemir definitely starts to wear off after 20 hours or so. I basically give a little extra humalog with an evening meal, so that covers it, as I inject before bed.

Lantus was completely gone by dinner for me, hence the 2 doses per day.

Levemir only comes in a pen-fill, which may or may not matter to you...

That's about it, it's pretty similar to Lantus in most respects as far as I'm concerned. I'm not sure about the cost, as I'm covered under a drug plan, but I think they are pretty close.

Hope that helps.

Jay.
