I remember when computer memory was made by hand winding magnetic miniature donuts. It was a very expensive process that produced very little memory. Now you can buy memory for a few dollars.

The real hang-up to making this affordable to the masses is the production of pigs. Yet there are individuals that are working on the lab culture of islet cells. Further, research like Jim Wright did on Tilapia may be revived and improved. There are lots of innovative ways of getting to a lower cost structure but first one must prove that it works. Once it works the business model will be constantly evolving.

I read today that netflix expects internet delivery of movies to make their business model obsolete within four years. They are constantly working on changing their model.

When a cheaper source of cells become this will be relatively inexpensive outpatient procedure.
