Dear Honourable New Zealand Prime Minister and Government Ministers,

I am the President of the International Xenotransplant Recipients
Association,(IXRA).
Our core membership includes six Type 1 diabetes patients who participated
(with only positive benefits) in early cellular porcine safety
trials carried out here in New Zealand, under the auspices of the
N.Z.Ministry of
health, all performed by Public Health staff, within the N.Z.Public
hospital system.

To the best of our knowledge, The LCT application was submitted well
over two years ago, being granted unreserved Medsafe/GTAC committee
approval eighteen months ago,(April 2007) and the requisite ethical
approvals soon after that.
The National Health Committee completed their specially called for
supplementary report on time ,(early August 2008).
Submitters to that committee, like IXRA and others, for example
Diabetes Youth New Zealand,
worked extremely hard to achieve the challenging time lines stipulated
for both the oral and written submissions.

All the above was completed, trusting that with the not unreasonable
expectation
that matters would proceed within a reasonable time frame.
..if this administration could just shed a little light on the current
situation, say via the media,we and a multitude of other type 1 diabetes
sufferes would be most grateful.

I remain ,ever trustful , about the imminent conclusion to this
approval process,

Yours most sincerely,
Michael Helyer, President- International Xenotransplant Recipients
Association.
