Hello,
I am writing you today to ask you to save my life. And the lives of millions of children around the world. You have the power to do this. You can change history for the better. You can be part of the solution to this horrible disease. It is time. This disease is Juvenile Diabetes. Juvenile (also called Type 1 or insulin dependent) diabetes is the severe form of the disease that typically suddenly strikes early in life. It is not preventable nor related to lifestyle in any way.
I contracted this life threatening and life limiting disease as a baby, after a viral infection. I am full of holes from a lifetime of injections and blood tests. I now must wear an insulin pump to stay alive. Each day, I am threatened by the risk of seizures and coma. If I survive another day, I am one step closer to developing kidney failure, heart damage, blindness, amputation, brain damage, painful nerve damage, and early death. All at a young age, in what should be the prime of my life. I have put my young life on hold to focus on staying alive, when I should be focusing on furthering my education and career in order to be a contributing member of society.
It does not have to be this way. I will no longer have to sleep fully dressed as I am not sure if I will wake up in the morning. I will be able to walk down the street and not worry about falling into a coma. I will be able to smile again. I will be able to LIVE and not simply survive. This is only possible if you support xenotransplantation. And we must do this now. Bob Elliot and his company, LCT, has a safe and effective solution that can save my life. Please let me be a voice for hope, and not another statistic. The time to make history is today, and together we can change the future. Thank you for your attention.
Edit: This is the "personal story" email that I sent, but I am considering sending a scientific fact based email that shows how the only way to prevent expensive and debilitating complications is euglycemia, and the only way to achieve that is with LCT. I also wanted to say here thank you Andra for your kind words of support to my last posting. I am getting a CGMS next week, and I am applying for an islet transpant against my better judgement. I am hoping LCT will move forward in the meantime. Thank you. You guys are like family to me.
