Dear Sir, I am the mother of a 9 year old boy named Addison who was diagnosed last Nov. at 8 year old. Since that moment our lives have made about a 100 degree turn. Yes we are all here and Addison is doing pretty darn well in coping and handling the daily life of having this disease. He is very brave but he gets very frustrated alot and just wants to be like all other kids he knows "normal". As a mother this breaks my heart and I would do anything to take this away from him. But since that is not possible we do all that we can to support research in whatever way we can whether financially, or writing to whoever we need to to ask for the help that is needed to keep up the fight to destroy this disease so not one more family has to sit there and listen to this diagnosis and not know what lies ahead for their childs life. We are very blessed and thankful that we have Addison and we just ask that you would please continue the research with pig islets as it could be the next step to my son being able to live a life free from worries, daily pokes, shots, and carb.counting. There is so much that encompasses this disease on a daily basis. Please keep up with this research so one day soon I can look him in the eyes and tell him that there was a cure found and that he will be "normal".
Very sincerely your,
Valerie Westbrook
