Pig Clotting Factor has consistently tested positive for PERV, yet there has never been a case of infection.
I am even told that pig skin, when used to treat burns, is living skin applied to an open wound, and again no infection has ever taken place.
And yes, these are dirty old slaughterhouse pigs, not the specific-pathogen-free ancient breed raised in sterile conditions that LCT uses for its islets. And the quantity of tissue used in these situations is many times the volume used in an islet xenograft, and in the case of pig clotting factor, used over and over for life.
When you think about slaughterhouse workers for the past 200 years killing and butchering hundreds of pigs a day. How many times would living pig cells have healed into open cuts and wounds, and how many times would those slaughterhouse workers have compromised immune systems from TB or general ill-health? And NEVER has there been any evidence of PERV infection or a public health risk.
