I don't even know where to start with this one....do and think whatever you see fit.
As a child who actually HAS inherited this disease, I have every right to express my views. Ask your child how they would feel if they had to give themselves needles "like mom", while knowing they may also go blind one day as well.
Your story speaks for itself, but I respect your choices.
