My parents didn't pass it on per se as we don't know of anyone else in our family with type 1 diabetes. I don't fault my parents, they had no idea it was in our family. I personally will NOT pass this on to a child. I had my tubes tied last November to make certain of that. It is a horrible disease that you must monitor constantly, it lowers your quality of life significantly as well as the length of your life.
There are many unwanted healthy children waiting to be adopted, why not choose that option? Personally, I won't adopt simply because I don't actually want children, healthy or not. But for others, why not?
Why this need to add more people to an already overpopulated world that is about to reach the 7 billion people mark? And then to top it off to disregard the obvious fact that you have an increased risk of passing on a horrible disease? I can barely bring myself to manage my disease, I certainly do not want to have to stick needles into a 3-year-old childe multiple times a day, every single day until they can do it themselves and then watch them do it for the rest of their lives, watch them fall apart before my eyes and possibly die before me even all because I passed on this horrible disease. No thank you.
