just reading this thread - definitely an interesting metaphysical debate.

Pt. 1: Yes, children have a higher probability of becoming diabetic but what Sarah and klausen propose sounds like eugenics - a pretty ugly place.

Pt. 2: your decision not to have children does not benefit anyone as you cannot benefit a being that does not exist. To couch your decision as a moral one is totally false. By the same token, the child one decides not to have could conceivably cure AIDS, solve world hunger etc. Is it therefore an immoral choice not to have as many children as humanly possible? I don't think that makes sense either. It needs to be a personal decision and left at that.

Full Disclosure, I have been diabetic for 19 years, have progressing retinopathy and a child. None of the decisions we make are easy suffice to say, but I don't know my future any more than anyone else (diabetics and others).
