There is nothing wrong with trying to better the human race or reduce suffering through selective genetics. Would you want any of those diseases or traits in your kids? I wouldn't. And yes I have blond hair and green eyes ;)BUT obviously that doesn't mean I'm against neutral things like brown hair or trying to advocate anything other than simple common sense. If you read the original article that these responses are to, it is absolutely and horrifically heartbreaking. Go ahead and re-read it.

I think many diabetics call it "surviving" as opposed to managing. Not all of us are lucky enough to have extensive family support or predictable blood sugars. Some of us such as myself, have other co-morbid autoimmune diseases that affect blood sugar levels in addition to Type 1. I have always tested at least 8x a day and used intensive management, but I am extremely sensitive to any variation in BG's which is impossible to avoid as a Type 1.

Last time I spoke with anyone was when I suspected that I was developing another autoimmune disease and wasn't sure if I wanted to let it go untreated, treat it, or to figure out a plan if things become too much in the future. I have since decided not to treat any other issues that may arise, as I have realized that fighting nature is now absurd.

I'm not trying to be an ass, but rather putting my perspective out there, in case there are others who may now think twice about having a child, and/or are feeling some of the same thoughts.
