I'm sorry - but do you hear what you are saying? OK - by your reasoning, let's totally clean up that gene pool. Let's get rid of the overweight (they may become obese, get type 2 and who knows what else); we don't want people with MS either, CF, motor neurone disease, any autoimmune condition, blindness, deafness, autism. Actually, how about we consider ridding our society of bed-wetters, dyslexics, asthmatics, anyone who has had any form of cancer, people with a below-average IQ, people who cross against the lights, poor spellers, my 8 year old nephew who can't remember is 8 times tables and anyone who can't recite the periodic table correctly. Anyone who matches these should not be allowed to have children. Oh and while we're at it, what about people with dark hair and brown eyes. Let's create a superior race of white, blonde, blue-eyed people. Hang on - I think someone may have tried that once before.
And, Sarah, I am sorry, but type 1 IS a manageable disease. You are alive - you are managing. How well you manage is, in a lot of ways, up to you. I would also urge that you find a counsellor with whom to speak over your feelings of such anger and bitterness.
PS - I am sure the lovely RC people in Australia would be THRILLED that their website amuses you.
