It is also true that if you are a type 1 diabetic considering having children you don't really need genetic testing, just a little common sense, to see that you shouldn't expose anyone else to the heightened risk which you would pass on to future generations. A risk 20 times greater than normal for male parents and 12 times higher than normal for female parents should suffice in itself to discourage producing children.
