Not true. HLA typing (to determine if high risk or protective) of both you and your partner can be done in addition to testing for one or more specific genes that have been linked to Type 1 and possibly, related autoimmunities. It is by no means 100%, but it gives you the option to find a partner with protective HLA types, or to rule out children with someone who is also high risk.
