Studies of identical twins show that in half of all cases where one twin develops type 1 diabetes, the other does also. So it is accurate to say that "it could just be part of life" in only half the cases. What is certain is that, as a type 1 female, you increased the risk of that terrible tragedy occurring by a factor of 12. You knew about the risk in advance but decided to take it anyway, making the decision for your own future children that they too would find life with diabetes preferable to no life at all. If you had been my parent, you would have been mistaken, and what could you say to me now? "I'm sorry" ?!
