And further, since you have no statistical basis for predicting in advance that your child will be so fatuously and delusional happy in life that he or she will simply delight in being blind, paralyzed, and constantly vomiting while tied to a dialysis machine by age 35 because of type 1 diabetes, you can't rationally factor that into your decision whether to have children or not. What you can and ethically must factor in, however, is the fact that the child will have a 20 times higher than normal risk of suffering from a truly hideous illness.
