I am glad to hear that you are happy and that your kids are as well. However, not everyone with a chronic illness fares so well AND finds someone who will love and accept them with that illness.
For me, the fact still remains that am I consciously increasing the chance that my child will suffer,as opposed to a simple accident that I could not prevent. I equate genetic testing and selective procreating with wearing a helmet. It's effective preventative medicine, but for something we actually CAN prevent 100% if we so choose.
As we know, since autoimmune diseases are related and cluster in families, I am not impressed by the idea that my child/grandchild/future generations may not only get Type 1, but eventually MS, RA, and/or other painful or debilitating illnesses AS WELL and in addition to Type 1.
The GF/CF diet is the best I can reccommend for those still wanting to "risk" it. I would also increase maternal and infant consumption of Omega 3 fatty acids.
