~snip~all we had to do was stop having children and the number of new diabetics would rapidly decline over the generations~snip~

My son was diagnosed with diabetes almost 3 years ago. We have NO family history of diabetes (with the exception of my father who has T2). AFTER my son was diagnosed, my mother was diagnosed with Grave's Disease, my aunt with hypothyroidism, and me with peripheral neuropathy. But, even with all that, we have a HUGE family and 4 screwed up individuals do not negate the rest of the clan.

So what would you recommend? That absolutely everyone stop having kids in this family because four (out of dozens) have autoimmune problems?

If my son has a child there is a 7% chance that this child will have diabetes. That means that there is a 93% chance that the kid will be just fine.

Well, there's a 100% chance that every kid will die of something eventually. Perhaps we should all stop breeding.
