Okay, so I'm starting a debate ;) I guess the futile point I was trying to convey was that some people either are unwilling or simply unable to understand either my concept or point of view. Rather than fight the masses, I find it easier to put out facts and allow those who can interpret them to do so.

I have to agree 100% with you that Type 1 completely affects if not destroys a person's quality of life, not to mention the potential for severe physical pain and emotional involvement.

I personally feel that I would need to ensure my child is a)extremely attractive, b)will have a high IQ, c)will have a resilient personality, d) will be athletic/talented, e)will have no other diseases from the father's side etc. just to somehow give them a SOMEWHAT normal chance at having enjoyment out of life. I have to say that despite having multiple things going for me, Type 1 has a large and negative impact that I can not eradicate no matter what I do. If you think about every aspect of this disease, it is truly amazing we are still here "fighting".

As I am optimistic by nature, I would love to think there will be genetic modification to eradicate Type 1 in my lifetime, although I know this is wishful thinking. Potentially, there may be (eventually) preventative measures that may safely stop Type 1 in it's initial stages and or prevent/"cure" it. There is some evidence to believe that a gluten free/casein free diet may prevent or delay Type 1. As such, I feel that all children with a high-risk for Type 1 should be on a GF/CF diet from birth, if you DO decide to procreate.

There is much to suggest that an excess of specific bacterial flora in the intestine may be the initial trigger in genetically susceptible individuals, and that gluten/casein may be the secondary trigger.

I can't force people to make choices, but I stand behind what I say, simply because it's logical.
