It is interesting that there is anecdotal evidence that both niacin and niacinamide slow development of diabetic complications. Are they donating a component of NAD, thus increasing its concentration, which in turn slows the reaction converting NADH back to NAD, thus limiting the production of damaging free radicals?

If what this submission says is true, and even just five hours of hyperglycemia in animal models can produce detectable changes in the blood vessels like those seen in diabetics, then that suggests that even the smallest dose of hyperglycemia, which no degree of strict control in a type 1 diabetic can eliminate, does measurable damage.

Most interesting is the fact that calcium pyruvate is available from a number of internet suppliers as a nutritional supplement.
